Knowing God personally page 2

We are Sinners

You and I have a sinful nature and sin. We sin when we think, say or do wrong things in the sight of God and break his moral laws. Everybody in the world, including us, is guilty before God of sin.

"For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard" (Romans 3:23 NLT).

‘As the Scriptures say, "No one is righteous — not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one." "Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies." "Snake venom drips from their lips." "Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness." "They rush to commit murder. Destruction and misery always follow them. They don't know where to find peace." "They have no fear of God at all" ' (Romans 3:10-18 NLT).

Your sin separates you from God, so you cannot know him or experience his love

God is perfect but we are sinners. God wants to be close to us, but the wrong things that we have done have separated ourselves from him. God hates the sin that keeps us from him.

"Your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear" (Isaiah 59:2 NKJV).

Because of sin we are spiritually dead, eternally separated from God.

"For the wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23 NKJV).

Sinners must die physically and spiritually forever.

Jesus said "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins" (John 8:24 NKJV).

Good deeds do not cancel out evil

You might think that the good deeds that you have done will cancel out the bad, but this is not so. No one can go to heaven by being a good person, because doing good deeds does not deal with the real problem of sin. We have already broken God's law, becoming law breakers ourselves.

"For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10 NKJV).

Our sinful nature has already taken hold of us and destroyed us. In fact, because of the condition of our sinful hearts, in God's eyes all our good deeds are like dirty rags.

"We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind" (Isaiah 64:6 NLT).

God will be your Judge

God will one day judge the world of sin according to his standards, not ours. There is no reincarnation and there are no second chances. After we die, God will also judge us.

"...each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27 NLT).

God is a good and just judge. He is not corrupt like some human judges, so he will not overlook our sinful ways. Even though he loves us deeply and dearly, he will find us guilty for breaking his laws. As a just, honest and blameless judge, God will condemn us as guilty of sin and sentence us accordingly.

Sin brings eternal punishment

All sinners are facing God's judgment and wrath and will ultimately be abandoned in Hell. Hell is a real place full of unimaginable torment and pain. Those who go there will suffer for eternity and never get out.

"The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 13:41-42 NKJV).

"And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night" (Revelation 14:11a NKJV).

In Hell "their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched' (Mark 9:48 NKJV).
